Robert Lambert builders at heart

This article is part of our series Builders at Heart, where we highlight the passions and backgrounds of the Clark team – the things that shape us – that allow us to tackle challenges head-on, solve complex problems, and build what matters.

Robert Lambright is a pile driver journeyman with Clark Foundations. Currently working on the Quantum Loophole Pump Station project in Frederick, Maryland, he has also been part of crews on the WMATA Northern Bus Garage Reconstruction and P-114 Medical Center Addition and Alteration at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center projects. He has 40 years of construction experience.

Tell us a little bit about your background.

I grew up in Holly Hills, South Carolina. I graduated high school in 1984 and have worked in construction ever since.

Who has had the most influence on your life?

My brother Jared, who has passed away. When I first came to DC, he got me into construction and taught me a lot about life.

When did you start in the industry?

I started in 1984 and have 40 years of experience.

How long have you been with Clark?

Six years!

What made you pursue a career in construction?

Before working in construction, I was pumping gas in a small town, making only $100 a week. My brother was in town one weekend, and I knew this was my ticket to DC and finding a job. I got to DC on a Sunday night, and that Monday morning, my brother got me a job in construction. I have stayed in the industry ever since.

Tell me more about your current role.

I deal with micropiles, welding, laying out steel, underpinning, pretty much a bit of everything for foundations.

What is your proudest accomplishment? Either personally or professionally?

I’m a proud father of two: I have a son and a daughter. They are both good kids with good careers. Still no grandchildren, but I am looking forward to that. I am very proud of both of my kids.
